George G. Neilsen, 87, of Hudson, MA, formerly of Marlborough, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late George Neilsen and Catherine (MacDonald) Neilsen Lundquist and the step son of the late Eric Lundquist. George and his wife Marilyn (Traverse) Neilsen enjoyed 60 years of marriage.
He was proud to have served during WWII with the US Marine Corps until his discharge in 1946. He had been employed as a sales representative for the Penn Culvert Company of Billerica, MA, where for many years he was their top salesman.
George was an antique automobile enthusiast who enjoyed restoring them and had the ability to do so. He had been an avid golfer and loved watching all sports, especially hockey.
Although he had many interests, he was dedicated to the ideals and advancement of the Marlboro Lions Club. A lifetime member of the organization he served locally in many positions, including, Past President, Zone Chairman and Deputy District Governor. He also received the Melvin Jones Award, the highest award in Lionism. He later served as Past District Governor of Lions International and President of the Past District Governors Association and the Governor's Honorary Committee. He was also an honorary member of the Stow Lions Club.
In 1982, during his term as District Governor of District 33K, he established the District Governors' Emergency Fund. Originally funded following the Blizzard of 1978 by District 33A, it has been continually funded since that time and provides financial support and assistance to a worthy recipient where the request meets the humanitarian goals of the district and association.
