Tribute & Message From The Family

Rebecca Lynn Dugan, 26, of Hudson, MA, died unexpectedly, Monday, January 14, 2019, after a 10 year struggle with addiction.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of John Paul Dugan and Audrey L. Sewell, of Hudson, MA.
A graduate of Hudson High School, Rebecca had attended Quinsigamond College, Worcester, MA.
She was employed at a fundraising company and was very proud of attaining her position as a supervisor.
Growing up, Rebecca was a hilarious little girl who would make everyone laugh with her incredibly quick wit, love of dancing around, and her Jim Carey impressions. She carried this same spirit into adulthood.
She was a smart and passionate person who enjoyed her family, friends and pets, usually cats! Rebecca had a warm heart, which she shared by helping others in need, especially by volunteering at the Addiction Referral Center in Marlborough.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her sister, Rachel Dugan and her husband Joseph Calvao of Hudson, and their one year old daughter, Emerson Calvao, whom Rebecca talked about so often that people assumed she was her daughter, rather than niece.
She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Sewell, her aunts and uncles, Maureen Duggan, Catherine and Robert Mollica, Monica Dugan, Christine Dugan and Frank Graves, and Robert and Debra Sewell as well as her cousins, Brendan Mollica, Zachary Graves and Spencer Graves.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 21, from 4-7 pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 10:00 am at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Forest Vale Cemetery, Hudson, MA.
Donations may be made to Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery. MOAR's mission is to organize recovering individuals, families and friends into a collective voice to educate the public about the value of recovery from alcohol and other addictions.

I'm so sorry Rebecca had such a struggle with addiction in her short life. The decision to speak about her addiction as well as her sense of humor and love of life in the obituary is brilliant and so well written. My love goes to Audrey, Paul and Rachel as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins and all who loved her.

I do not know your daughter personally. She sounds lovely. I came across this obituary somehow and good a reason I suppose. I, too, suffer from addiction and overdosed on several occasions. I am one of the lucky ones who made it into recovery. I think it's a very empowering message when families include overdose in their loved one's obituary. It combats the stigma associated with addiction. I just wanted to have you know that. Rebecca and I share the same birthday. I will be thinking of her and all her family on the 30th. My wish is that no person or family experience and overdose death again. You have an angel now that will fight from above. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
