Aristides "Ted" Tzellas, 79, of Framingham passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 21, 2016. Ted was born in Pentalafos, Kozani, Greece and came to the United States through Ellis Island in April 1951 at the age of 15. He settled into the small Greek community of Marlboro, MA where he met his wife Chris.Ted worked as a carpenter in Marlboro for many years before moving his family to North Miami where he worked on various construction projects. He returned to Massachusetts in 1977, leaving behind what would become lifelong friends. Always an avid Red Sox fan, Ted was a kind and gentle soul who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, and there was never a lack of family gatherings. Every year, family and friends looked forward to Ted hosting the Greek Easter celebration where he proudly cooked the traditional lamb on his homemade spit.
Ted leaves behind his wife of 59 years Chrisoula "Chris" (Hassapes) Tzellas, and 3 children: Barbara Tzellas Schneider of E. Walpole; Lisa Tzellas of W. Barnstable; and Dean Tzellas and his wife Heather Giles of Framingham; two grandchildren: Amanda Schneider of Bellingham, and Bobby Schneider of E. Walpole; a brother Milt and his wife Julia of Arizona; a sister-in-law Vangie Gallow Tzellas Boule; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents Constantine Tzellas and Ourania (Pervanas), his brothers James and Chris Tzellas, and sister Amalia Pantazis. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 25th, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlboro, MA.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 26th at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown St., Weston, MA followed by a graveside service at Edgell Grove Cemetery, 53 Grove St., Framingham, MA.
Additional calling hours will be at the church prior to the service from 9:30 am - 10:30 am on Friday.
Donations may be made in Ted's name to St. Demetrios Church, Weston, MA
