John David Castor, Sr., 90, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at Marlborough Hospital.
Born and raised in Concord, MA, he was the son of the late Carl and Mary (Hayes) Castor. He had been married to his late wife Paula (Cahill) Castor for 50 years at the time of her death in 2001.
Following his graduation from Concord High School, where he was known as "Bandy", he served in the US Army CO 1 391st Infantry Division. He later graduated with a BS in Education from Framingham State College. He spent many years teaching on the reservations in New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming and Idaho, as well as providing citizenship training to the immigrants.
He had a passion for baseball, pitching for the Twilight League and an avid supporter as well as a passion for politics,serving as president of the Young Democrats. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a jazz enthusiast. He was also a member of the Pro Bowlers Assoc., DAV, VFW and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his son John D."J" Castor, Jr., of Marlborough, his daughter, Daria Graham and her husband Frank of Hudson and his brother, Donald Castor of Ayer, his grandchildren, Tracy Seger of Jeffersonville, ME, Chris Allen of Campbell, CA, Robert Allen of San Jose, CA, Heather Allen of Los Angeles, CA, Rebekah Allen of Clinton, MA, Kristen Angers of Worcester, MA, Mary Amaniampong of Worcester, MA, Anna Allen of Jamaica Plain, MA and Malica Allen of Leominster, MA as well a 10 greatgrandchildren. He was also the father of the late Paula Mary Castor and the brother of the late Betty Castor.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 6-8 at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18 at 10:00 am at St., Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough.
John will be buried with his wife in New Mexico.
