Lois Blanche(Fenton) Carlson, 81, of Marlborough, MA, died following a long illness on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA. Lois was born in Waltham, MA to Gladys (Mackenzie) Fenton and Edgar Fenton. Lois attended Waltham public schools and worked at the New England Mica Factory in her early years before becoming a full time mother. She married Richard E. Carlson, also of Waltham, on November 11, 1956.
She is survived by her husband; Richard E. Carlson; children; Richard E. Carlson Jr.and fiancée Candi Cerqueira, Toms River, NJ; Lisa L. Turnblom and her husband, Stephen Turnblom, Shrewsbury, MA; Donald P. Carlson and his wife, Anne Carlson, Marlborough, MA and Peter D. Carlson, Marlborough, MA; her grandchildren; Andrew Carlson, John Carlson and his wife Gina Carlson, SJ Turnblom and his wife Nikki Turnblom, David Turnblom, Melissa Turnblom, Erik Carlson and Kyle Carlson; and her great grandchildren Lucca Carlson and Anders Turnblom. She is further survived by her brother Clifford Fenton and his wife Shirley Fenton, Hudson, MA and several nieces, nephews and close friends. She was pre deceased by her parents and brother; Kenneth Fenton and his wife Shirley Fenton, Waltham, MA.
Lois was a long time member of the First Congregational Church and also one of the very first bell ringers for many years. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother to her family which she cherished greatly. She spent many years as a shuttle service to her children and grandchildren driving them back and forth to sporting and school events. She enjoyed vacations to Cape Cod, Maine and New Hampshire. She was a devoted Washington Capitals fan along with supporting her local Boston sports teams. She was an avid crocheter and her afghans are treasured by her children and grandchildren. Lois always looked out for others often sacrificing herself for the benefit of others. She always spoke in a kind and positive manner to all she met or came in contact with and had a smile that lit up the room and warmed your heart. Even near the end of her life she was more concerned for the well being of her family over her own sickness.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9:00AM to 10:30AM at the First Church in Marlborough, Congregational, 37 High St. Marlborough, MA, followed by a funeral service at 10:45AM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough, MA.
