Margaret Cecilia (Duffy) Gorman, of Marlborough, formerly of Albany, NY, died Monday, August 22, 2016. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. A devout Catholic, she attended high school at Fontbonne Hall Academy and studied education at St. Joseph's College. A lifelong teacher, Margaret started her teaching career in the Red Hook public schools. Margaret married Donald Gorman, also of Brooklyn, on December 28, 1963 and they shared a lifetime of happiness together, raising five children. In 1977, they relocated to Albany for Donald's job with the NYS Department of Civil Service. Margaret later taught at Greene Correctional Facility, helping inmates earn their GEDs. Margaret also worked with incarcerated youth at the Tryon Residential Center, where she was adored and known affectionately as "Big Mama G." For the last few years Margaret lived in Marlborough, MA to be closer to her son, Don.

Despite many challenging health problems later in life, Margaret kept her sharp wit and playful humor. She loved spending time with her family, going out for hot fudge sundaes, and doing the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle. A devoted mother, Margaret attended (and even coached!) countless softball and basketball games through the years and proudly attended every school function.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald F. Gorman, her sister Patricia O'Keefe, and her brothers Matthew and William Duffy. She is survived by her five children: Patricia, Meg, Don and his wife Bela,Caitlin and her partner Perry, and Nef, as well as her treasured grandchildren: Brian, Zoe, Nayla, Kai, Cassidy, Tara, Shay, and Sebastian and first great-grandchild, Aletta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The Farano House/Community Maternity Services, 27 N. Main Ave, Albany, NY 12203.
