Mary J. (Smith) Hartley, 68, of Marlborough, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at UMass Memorial Marlborough Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude (Brewer) Smith of Marlborough.
A 1968 graduate of Marlborough High School and lifelong Marlborough resident, Mary worked as a printer for Raytheon in the 1970's and later went on to work and cook in the Raytheon Dining Center.
Best known for her homemade bread pudding, she had a love for cooking and baking. Working out of her home, she filled many custom orders for wedding cakes and pies.
Mary enjoyed attending Sunday services at the Grace Baptist Church in Hudson, MA and vacationing in the Lake Winnipesaukee region with her close friend Irene.
Her love of large family gatherings, her animals, music and her witty sense of humor will always be remembered.
Mary is survived by her sons, Thomas Hartley of Marlborough and John Hartley and his wife Heidi of Leominster, her daughter, Jennifer Hartley and her fiancé Justin Wainwright of Marlborough, her brother, Frank Smith, III, of Marlborough, her grandchildren Joseph, Brandon, Jacob, Christian and Sherryanne and her great-grandchildren Joey, Tommy, Ethan, Cooper and Jayce. She was also the sister of the late Gladys Bouchard.
Visiting hours will be held from 3:00-6:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA 01752. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Grace Baptist Church, 353 River Rd., Hudson, MA 01749.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 58105.
