Nelson J. Dion, Sr., 90, of Marlborough, MA, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Marlborough Hills Healthcare following a period of declining health.
A lifelong resident of Marlborough, he was the son of the late Nelson and Eva (Sasseville) Dion and the husband of the late Mary (Misener) Dion, who died in 2012.
A US Army veteran of WWII, Mr. Dion was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during the Guadalcanal Campaign as well as a Bronze Star and a Presidential Unit Citation for service in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
He had been employed at Deerfoot Farms, Southborough,Associated Transportation of Waltham and as a mechanic for E.C. Murray Paving Company, Framingham, for many years before retiring.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Marlborough, the American Legion, the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the Americal (23 Infantry)Division.
He is survived by his son, Nelson J. Dion, Jr. and his significant other, Sharon Paton of Moultonboro, NH, his daughters, Suzanne Loureiro and her husband Jerrold of Chandler, AZ, Claudette Dion of Marlborough, Cheryl Simmons and her husband Curtis of Maui, Hawaii and Michelle Lariviere and her husband Martin of Marlborough, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Mary Dion Cole and the brother of the late Eva Cecchini and Corinna Ellis.
The family would like to thank the staff of Aging Well adult day health and Marlborough Hills HealthCare for the kindness and compassion which was extended to both beloved parents.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 27 from 5-8 pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28 at 10:00am at St. Anne's Church, 20 Boston Road, Rte. 30 Southborough, MA. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Beach St., Marlborough.
